Gary Clark Jr. started off his tour “The Story of Sonny Boy Slim” on Thursday night at Jannus Live in St Pete, Florida. My brother and I were there, and it was amazing. Clark’s new album The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, was produced with Warner Bros. Records and was released last September making it his second worldwide record. Gary Clark Jr. is know for his unique sound and style. His music covers multiple genres, including Blues, Rock, R&B and Soul, he said “I listen to everything…so I want to play everything”.
Gary Clark Jr. started playing guitar in the sixth grade, in his teenage years he started to make a name for himself by playing with local musicians in clubs around his home town of Austin, Texas. On Sundays, Clark sang in the church choir with his sisters.
Ever since Clark’s “Bright Lights” EP was released in 2011 with songs like “Don’t Owe you a Thang” and “When My Train Pulls In” his following has been growing with every new record.
Gary Clark Jr.’s music is remarkable, it’s hard to overplay the great guitar tones and vocals of any of his songs, not to mention his live performance (spectacular), and that’s why he is this months pick for the Classy Lion Musician of the Month.
